Understand. Learn. Grow.
Inspired by her father’s social work in Kenya, Joy Rukundo founded One80 Africa e. V. in Germany in 2011 together with other members of the organization.
In its early years, the organization was known as Pendo Kenia e. V. Since then, we have been working alongside Kenyan communities to create places where children, young people, and families can shape their own path toward an independent and sustainable future.
Our Work
Our focus is on communities, schools, and learning centers that promote education and social interaction—for children as well as for young people and adults. Our project experience has shown us how important a holistic approach is, one in which everyone finds their place. Treating nature and resources with respect is central to this. Our work is always centered on people and their living environments, inspired by pioneers here in Kenya and around the world.
Our Presence
Today, in addition to Malindi, we are active in Nairobi, Nanyuki, and the Masai Mara. Most of our team lives in Kenya to establish projects on the ground, support ongoing initiatives, and evaluate completed projects.
Our Experience
In the early years, we primarily supported existing community projects—for example, by providing school supplies, uniforms, food, or workshops. Later, we expanded our efforts to include the renovation and construction of schools, as well as the installation of water lines. Over the past 14 years, we have met countless children, parents, and teachers. These encounters have enriched and inspired us, and gifted us with stories full of courage and hope. Together, we have been able to implement projects and workshops that have brought light and new perspectives into many lives.
Our Vision
With our rebranding to One80 Africa, we aim to place an even greater emphasis on sustainability in our projects.
Our vision is to create spaces that open up new perspectives and opportunities for children and young adults. Access to knowledge and mutual exchange are intended to inspire creativity and foster individual strengths.
Our focus is on creating communal spaces where individuals can chart their own path toward an independent and sustainable future.
