Building the future with our own hands
mojaPAPAYA is the brand that emerged from the “Cotton of Kanani” project.
What began as an idea to give local artisans greater visibility has grown into a vibrant brand and platform for professional independence.
Through its tailoring and carpentry programs, mojaPAPAYA creates real opportunities for young entrepreneurs—through their own efforts, with style and substance.
The brand that makes more than just little ones laugh
mojaPAPAYA – “a papaya” – is a brand born from the talent and skills of many different artisans along the Kenyan coast.
Each of us is independent and skilled in our own craft, yet we come together—to share ideas, exchange knowledge, and, of course, to create together!
A steady income, which was especially helpful during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The products are sold throughout Kenya, providing a steady income for the tailors. On the Kenyan coast, the “Cotton of Kanani” project has established a training center. Some tailors have also gone into business for themselves and, with our support, have started their own companies.
A unique fruit, a unique community
The papaya is a unique, sweet, and healthy fruit. When you cut it open, it reveals what seems like an endless number of seeds.
The fruit itself holds all these seeds together—yet each one has the potential to grow into a tree of its own and bear its own fruit.
A beautiful image—and exactly what our brand stands for.
Use of existing resources
Since our products are inspired by natural materials and elements, our training program focuses on the crafts of carpentry and tailoring.
When you purchase one of our products, you’re not only supporting local craftsmanship but also a vision:
To raise awareness, live more mindfully, and grow as a community. The products currently available are playful and lovingly designed—with a special focus on the littlest ones among us.
mojaPAPAYA was something very special to me—it shaped me into the person I am today. I realized that sewing is so much more than just making clothes—I even learned how to create stuffed animals! It was great to try out new and creative designs like the teepee tent. I was really proud to be part of mojaPAPAYA—for me, it was the best experience ever.
